Building description

Aurora Home at Parkview Place is a state-of-the-art housing facility for older adults in Vanderhoof. Parkview Place offers 20 seniors’ independent living units located on the second and third floor. The first floor is reserved for Aurora Home, which features eight self-contained suites for individuals living with mild to moderate dementia.

Building amenities

Aurora Home at Parkview Place features spacious common areas including a dining room, living room, activity rooms, patios, lounge, hair salon and a secure entrance.

Language, culture or religious affiliation

Aurora Home is not affiliated with any specific cultural or religious group/organization. Care and programming is provided in English. Cultural and religious diversity is honored and supported through regular programming and collaboration with community organizations and services.

Philosophy of care

Connexus offers an individualized, person-centered supportive care program that builds on the uniqueness of each resident with tailored holistic care planning. Reflecting the individual’s history, abilities, culture, needs, strengths, preferences, relationships, emotions, and spirituality in a home environment that provides comfort and a feeling of familiarity, privacy, and personal space. It is our goal to support and preserve functioning, maximize abilities, promote safety, and encourage independence. Understanding the importance of consistency in care and familiar environments, we offer our residents the option to age in place.

Accreditation status

Connexus is fully accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). This accreditation ensures we are meeting internationally developed standards in the provision of quality services and is achieved through an independent, external review to identify strengths and areas for improvement based on objective program expectations and guidelines.

Type of accommodation

There are eight, studio suites available for individuals living with mild-to-moderate dementia.

Cost

Residents pay 80% of their after-tax income, with minimum and maximum rates set by the Ministry of Health Services. This rate covers the standard benefits provided by all long-term care homes. These costs are available on request. Cable, internet, and phone packages are not included.

Personal belongings and furniture

Suites are fully furnished with a TV, queen size bed, nightstand, desk, chair, side table, and storage closet. Residents can bring in additional small furniture items such as a chair, bookshelf/TV stand. Residents are encouraged to personalize their room by decorating it with pictures and things of importance. Heating devices are not allowed. Microwaves are available in the main kitchen area for resident use.

Special recreational opportunities

Staff organize recreational opportunities and special programming/activities to enhance memory.

Motorized scooter policy

Motorized scooter storage is not available on site. Residents must store and charge scooters in their suites if required.

Pet policy

Pets may visit if immunizations are up to date, pet is well mannered, on a leash in common areas. Each family is responsible for cleaning up after their pet.

Smoking policy

Aurora Home at Parkview Place is a smoke-free residence. Smoking is not permitted within the building, on balconies, or within five meters of the building.

Safety/security features

The building is equipped safety features such as grab bars in washrooms, smoke detectors/alarms, fire suppression/sprinkler system, handrails, elevator access, and secure accessible entrances.

Visitor information

Family involvement in supporting residents is an essential element in care. Family members are encouraged to visit and participate in a meaningful and structured manner based on the desires, needs, and wishes of the resident. Visitors need to follow all infection prevention guidelines as per health authority guidance.

Parking (resident/visitor)

Parking is not available on site. Nearby street parking is free for visitors.

Aurora Home at Parkview Place offers a home environment overlooking the beautiful Ferland Park, where a farmers’ market is held on Thursdays throughout the summer. Its central location provides easy access to local business and amenities.
