The Aboriginal Health Initiative Program (AHIP) is a granting program that began in 2002. Though these grants, we support First Nations Communities and Aboriginal Organizations in their work of improving health for Aboriginal people. Grants are short-term and administered by Aboriginal Health at Northern Health.

AHIP grants fund projects that will:

  • Have a good chance of living on after the funding ends
  • Support collaboration
  • Improve health by combining cultural and traditional knowledge with current health care approaches
  • Build relationships
  • Build capacity of local Aboriginal staff

Your application is eligible if you are:

  • Located within the Northern Health region
  • A First Nation
  • A Band or Health Centre
  • An Aboriginal, Inuit, or Métis organization that provides health and social services
