Family care homes are single family residences that provide supportive accommodation for up to two eligible clients. A family care home provides a home like atmosphere that includes meals, house-keeping services and assists the client with activities of daily living. Family care homes can be an alternative to a care facility or assisted living service for some individuals.

Group homes are private residences that enable adults with disabilities to live as independently as possible in the community. Group homes are generally operated by non-profit societies and range from single family dwellings to apartment complexes and usually accommodate four to six residents.

At this time, Northern Health's Home and Community Services program does not provide group homes as an option.
