THE HEAL NETWORK
Nuturing Seeds of HEALth in northern British Columbia
Since 2001 the HEAL Network has been working with communities as they plant seeds of health in northern British Columbia. Our vision is to support grassroots community-based groups that have a dream to make changes in the North that will help improve the health of Northerners. We look for ideas and solutions that are born in the North, developed for the North, by people who live in the North.
The HEAL (Healthy Eating/Active Living) Network is a multi-sectoral grassroots network that focuses on food security, healthy eating, active living, physical activity initiatives and chronic disease reduction.
The network is a vehicle to connect people and initiatives related to these topics across Northern BC, with a focus on the Northern Health region, from south of Quesnel, north to the Yukon border, east to the Alberta border and west to encompass Haida Gwaii.
The HEAL Network is connected to an advisory group of nine positions, three from each of the three northern health service delivery areas (NW, NI, NE) and is comprised of health professionals, non-government organization representatives and individual community champions/activists. The Network’s broad range of engagement activities provides opportunities to connect on HEAL issues and initiatives, as well as circulating information and funding opportunities.
We host HEAL Network Chats-- free learning, information and dialogue opportunities through teleconferencing, videoconferencing and web-based meetings. We are working toward an affordable and effective way to establish annual or biannual face-to-face opportunities.
